Silver Spring Speakers SeriesOur 2nd Series of Speakers started on April 25th with Dr. Michael April, Pain Management Specialist, who spoke about "Non-conventional Treatment for Chronic Pain" in his clinic, One Medicine Associates, where he treats chronic pain patients holistically. He stressed the importance of initial evaluations, following a patient's progress and creating a treatment plan that includes different components. Accompanying him were two staff members who also suffer from chronic pain. Robin Klein, professional conditioning specialist, spoke about the importance of exercise in healing and knowing your limitations; and Paula Mintzies, social worker, spoke about relaxation techniques and dealing with stress. On May 23rd Dr. Robert Rifkin, Chiropractor/Pain Management Specialist, spoke about "Nutrition and Chronic Pain". The presentation was extremely informative with information on the Anti-Inflammatory Diet - how our diet can inflame our pain; how proper nutrition can reduce heart disease and diabetes; the need to be aware of processed and genetically engineered foods and the importance of using herbs, vitamins, minerals and fatty acids to keep us healthy. On June 27th Lee Blank, Massuage Associates, spoke about the benefits of massage in the treatment of chronic pain. Accompanying her doing demonstrations was Eileen Zagone, massage therapist from, A Calmness Within. We thank Betty Timer, Recreation Specialist, at the Schweinhaut Senior Center for inviting Pain Connection to host this series.

RemembranceRosemary Boyd, a dear and wonderful member of our Montgomery County support group, passed away on August 10, 2005. Rosemary constantly battled one illness after another and still kept coming to group meetings with a determined spirit to cope better with her pain. Her devoted husband, Richard, drove her to every meeting and always made sure that she was comfortable. Rosemary always spoke so fondly of her daughters and how they helped her. We were honored to have your wife and mother as a member of our group. we will surely miss Rosemary because she was an inspiration to us all.
